Busted Compass Award

We are now into the wash-up and there is a footnote to Day One. At the end of the Bash, the Doctors Who were given the 'Busted Compass Award' for navigation on the first day out. Congratulations, big smiles, high fives...

With the distraction of a busted axle and missing lunch amid the confusion of our virgins on their first day ever on the bash, the Doctors missed a turn somewhere near Barratta Homestead and ended up bamboozled. After encountering some shut gates and doubling back a few times, the 'Tardis' was switched to autopilot. With a little help from its friends, it naturally found the shortest route back to the bitumen and a more comfortable trip to Arkaroola via Hawker, Leigh Creek and Copley.

Just for fun, here is the GPS track plotted onto Google Earth (map view tilted). We are still trying to work out from the running sheet just where they went wrong. We have a very detailed .kml file the Doctors will be looking at later. The track the Bash used was on the Eastern side of the Flinders Ranges. On close inspection, there are many tracks in the area, so the mix up is not surprising.
